Two goals by Dario Hubner in a ten-minute spell were enough for Piacenza to beat Bologna in the Garilli stadium in a match made difficult by extreme fog. Hubner's two wonderful goals eased Piacenza's situation near the bottom of Serie A while seriously denting their opponents' hopes of cementing a place in Europe. Bologna were not helped by the dismissal of Pierre Wome for refusing to retreat for a free-kick. Despite the fans' and Gianluca Pagliuca's complaints about the fog, referee Alfredo Trentelange began the game and quickly ruled out a Hubner goal for offside. Piacenza had two good chances soon after: first Hubner controlled a long pass by Paolo Poggi but his shot was inches over the bar, then Carmine Gautieri's volley flashed just wide. Bologna hit back just before the break, and were unlucky to see Julio Cruz hit the post from Carlo Nervo's cross. Fabio Pecchia then had an effort from close range blocked by Matteo Guardalben. Five minutes after the restart, Hubner struck. Gautieri crossed after a run down the right wing and the ball was swept home on the volley by the experienced forward. Ten minutes later, Hubner tried a free-kick but was blocked in his efforts by Cameroon defender Wome. Trentelange had no hesitation in booking him for a second time red card. On 64 minutes, Hubner doubled Piacenza's lead with a perfectly-placed free-kick. Bologna had two chances to reduce the deficit but Renato Olive's shot was saved by Guardalben and then Claudio Bellucci hit the crossbar on 80 minutes. When Hubner was replaced late on by Gabriele Ambrosetti , he received a standing ovation. | |
