Zizis Vryzas had the first chance on three minutes but his powerful header was well saved by Gianluca Pagliuca. The home side continued to dominate with Fabio Bazzani twice going close.

The pressure continued as Vryzas turned wide of an open goal and there was a stunning save on Tedesco's close-range header.

Bologna's only attempt came from Beppe Signori when a corner kick caught Oscar Cordoba by surprise.

At the dawn of the second half Bazzani was dragged down by Giulio Falcone. Ze Maria stepped up to convert the spot-kick and give Perugia a deserved lead.

Fabio Grosso, Fabian O'Neill and Tedesco could have doubled their advantage, but the 1-0 win knocks Bologna down to seventh place.
