Serie A '01-'02 : Ritorno
Bologna - Chievo

19th day ~ Bologna - Chievo : 3-1

Bologna and Chievo are two of the most surprising teams of the season but just as Luigi Del Neri's men appear to be faltering, the Rossoblu are holding on well despite their injuries. The Verona side made the trip without their suspended stars Eugenio Corini and Simone Perrotta.
It was a hard-fought match and after some early pressure it was Bologna who got the best chances. Renato Olive's goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper before Lamberto Zauli was left completely unmarked to meet a Julio Cruz cross.

Moments later Chievo were able to draw level when Emanuele Brioschi dragged back Federico Cossato for a penalty. Spot-kick specialist Corini is suspended so Christian Manfredini fired his attempt onto the crossbar.

There was further controversy when Eriberto blocked a Cruz header with his arm, but the referee did not spot the penalty incident. He did see Lorenzo D'Anna's tackle from behind on Cruz and Chievo were reduced to ten men.

Cruz kept his head on Zauli's impressive long ball forward to chip the 'keeper, but Luigi Beghetto's close range finish kept the match alive. In stoppage time Zauli completed his brace with a powerful strike for a deserved victory that propells Bologna towards a UEFA Cup spot.
