This is a head to head clash for the fourth and final Champions' League spot as Lazio have charged back into the running after a disastrous start to the season.
Bologna had the brighter start to this match and after Renato Olive's header clipped the crossbar, Beppe Signori fired straight at the 'keeper. The former Lazio legend brought another fine save out of Angelo Peruzzi with a fierce drive from 20 metres.
Lazio were clearly struggling and saw Lucas Castroman limp off before the half-hour mark. Their first shot on goal only came on 39 minutes with a powerful Dejan Stankovic free kick.
The scoring was eventually opened at the dawn of the second half. Signori took advantage of some extremely slow defending to slide a low drive past Peruzzi.
Lazio continued to struggle even after Bologna were left in ten men for Giulio Falcone's last man foul on Hernan Crespo.
