Bologna continue their assault on the European places and appear to be improving their away form with this crucial victory. The Rossoblu took the lead in curious circumstances as Julio Cruz's weak shot from the edge of the box slipped past Morgan De Sanctis in goal. The 'keeper was tricked by Fabio Pecchia's intelligent dummy across the path of the ball. Udinese struggled to come to terms with the situation and only really started to fight back on the half-hour mark when Gianluca Pagliuca performed spectacular saves on Roberto Muzzi and Martinez. There was also controversy when Renato Olive intercepted the ball with his hand, but it was from very close range. Bologna were forced to play the final minutes in ten men as Carlo Nervo was sent off for a challenge from behind, but they weathered the storm to seal this famous victory at the Friuli Stadium. | |
